Description
This ‘one owner’ 1972 British Leyland 1275GT offers an outstanding opportunity.
Restored to the highest of standards by time served craftsmen, this matching numbers example was retrieved from long term storage in 2019 when we embarked on a full ‘nut-and-bolt’ restoration, with the mandate to preserve originality wherever practical.
During this 18 month restoration process, emphasis was placed on factory-originality – the shell was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its factory-correct Glacier White, Leyland-correct red GT door stripes were applied, the original basket weave interior complete with the original 3 clock dash was refurbished and fitted by a ‘Bentley Motors’ time-served trimmer along with new carpets and headlining, full mechanical refurbishment using as many original components as possible, the original engine and gearbox have been fully rebuilt, new clutch, brakes, master cylinder, brake and fuel lines all replaced, the original Sundym glass with opening rear quarter lights refitted with new rubbers, the exterior finessed with new old stock genuine GT bumpers, and the original 10” wheels have been refurbished, wet painted and shod with period-correct 165/70R10 steel-belted tyres supplied by ‘Blockley’ using their new moulds and tooling specific for this classic.
The standard of finish will meet the demands of the most fanatical of collector, investor or enthusiast – one who understands and appreciates the attention to detail taken in bringing this amazing early GT to factory correctness.
The car is supplied with its Heritage certificate along with a new 12 month MOT, and of course, no advisories.
The work undertaken has been exhaustive, and the costs to complete such a build would make recreating a similar car extremely cost-prohibitive. With this in mind, combined with its undeniable quality and uniqueness, it’s clear to see that this car represents extremely good value.
