The BMW Z4 (E85) replaced the hugely successful Z3 (E36/7) in 2002. Available with four different engines, the entry level 2.0 litre 4 cylinder was fun, whilst the 3.0 litre 2.2 and 2.5 variants upped the ante on performance and capabilities. Sitting at the top of the BMW tree was the 3.2 litre S54 engined Z4M, offering 338bhp from the 6 cylinder, dual vans equipped motor.
This 3.2 litre engine first appeared in the E36 M3 3.2 Evolution, and it would go on to consistently appear in ‘Top 10 Engine of All Time’ blogs all around the world. The naturally aspirated unit offers more than enough power and torque to pin a smile on your face at any speed, more so when paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
