There has never been a better time to be seen in a 1980s BMW, even back in the 1980s themselves! No, in 2020, the coolest car on the block has to be a Retro Bavarian and ideally it needs to be wearing an ALPINA badge.

Like this one we have here! ACHTUNG BABY, this is the car you always dreamt of.

ALPINA models were exclusive, and could be ordered through a selection of specialist BMW dealers – they were also very expensive. It’s important to remember that this was the days when the ALPINA and M Badges really meant something, this was no mere trim level, it was a completely different machine to the factory BMW offering.

The B9 3.5 was ALPINA’s first take on the BMW 5 Series. Using the already accomplished 528i as a base, ALPINA swapped out the 2.8 litre motor and replaced it with a 3.5 litre straight six. This engine was enhanced with Mahle pistons, a new camshaft and a revised ECU plus Bilstein dampers.

Supplied by Sytner BMW in Nottingham and first Registered on 1st march 1984 as 1 of 64 UK prepared cars specified in Agate Green metallic paint with a manual gearbox and factory steel sunroof.

This well known car was one of the first cars listed on the ALPINA register. In addition to the standard original radio/cassette this example has survived largely intact with the original model specific ALPINA equipment present to include road wheels, steering wheel, spoilers, Scheel seats, and dash plaque.
