What is it?
Arguably the best car Honda have ever built, a dedicated, light weight, open-topped sports car, the Honda S2000.
Carrying on in the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s the S2000 was released in 1999 to an anticipatory audience. It was the turn of the century and Honda understood the market, the NSX and various Type R’s had already set up the way forward and the S2000 Didn’t disappoint.
The S2000 was an instant hit, a lightweight front-engined/rear-wheel drive open-top sports car matched to a gem of a motor/gearbox combination.

What’s it got?
Honda equipped the car with everything it needed and nothing it didn’t. ‘Tokyo by night’ digital dash, Electric roof, electric Power steering, push button starter, leather seats, air con, cruise control; etc etc… This example is sitting on model dedicated staggered17 inch black Rota Fighters although the original 16inch wheels are included.
How does it drive?
The road-tests at the time, and since, speak for themselves, a marvel of obsessive engineering there are two stand alone reasons to buy an S2000, the legendary 2.0 litre DOHC VTEC screaming banshee of a motor and the all-time benchmark six speed gearbox.
By today’s standards, driving an S2000 is exhilarating, with its stratospheric red line and scarcely believable specific power output provide stats of 237 bhp, 6.2 seconds to 60 and 155mph top speed.
Why this one?
Being a later car with revised suspension, this example offers improved ride quality/ handling and enjoys the later styling changes which further enhance the handsome modern looks.
It’s rare to find such a loved, unmodified car, full-service history and a superb colour combination make this an extremely desirable proposition. Complete with the original sales invoice, original service invoices, two keys along with a complete owners book pack mark the car out as a well maintained, well serviced example.
As much now as then, the prospect of a light, powerful, ultra-high-revving two-seater rear-drive sports car is something to get the juices flowing.
