Description

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 5 GSR.

What is it?
A 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V. 4WD Rally inspired road going rocket with a 2.0 276 BHP turbocharged motor.

The previous EVOs were good – but the Evolution V is the incarnation of the model that really put the car on the map. The new body mods had been made with the world Rally Championship’s Group A regulations in mind. The use of new front and rear bumpers and modified side skirts and rear apron. The front air-dam was a new design, and the rear spoiler had become even more outrageous than before, with an adjustable four position blade to change the attack angle.

1998 was Mitsubishi’s most successful year in rally motorsports. With the Evolution V platform, Mitsubishi finally claimed the WRC Manufacturers’ Championship, which had eluded them for five years. Tommi Makinen played a large role in this victory, as he himself took the WRC Driver’s Championship.

What’s it got?
In arguably the best colour, original Scotia White, the vehicles were well specced from new.
Factory Original Mitsubishi Recaro Wing back seats in superb condition, genuine and rare Mitsubishi floor mats, factory fitted electric glass Sunroof (optional extra), ice-cold air conditioning and factory tinted windows.
The car retains the original Genuine PIAA front fog lamps, original amber indicators and side repeaters.
Brembo front and rear callipers, EVO white dials, Head unit with Aux USB, Momo steering wheel, Ralliart gear knob, Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm / Immobiliser.

How does it drive?
The road testers at the time were blown away by the performance and astonishing levels of grip available. Nothing has changed since, with improved tyre technology they are even better today!
Parts are readily available and specialist are located throughout the UK to look after the car in the future. These are tough little cars and so well-mannered they can be used for practical every-day daily driving duties!

Why this one?
Unmolested examples are hard to find, the car retains most of its originality, no lairy exhaust or oversized intercooler.
Imported and supplied in 2017 by Mitsubishi specialist GSR Motorsport, Ayrshire as Auction Grade 4 out of 5 the car has been dry stored and covered less than 1k miles per year since. Ex BMW tech owner serviced annually with Millers nano drive 10w 60 oil.
